Needlework and Noshing!

Good day!

We had a great party this past weekend. A joyous occasion to celebrate the completion and partial completion of our first quilts. Also, the party served as a bon voyage toast to one of our quilters. The picture below shows us all decked out in retro-gear, for the party was set to a vintage cocktail party theme. For attire we channeled Grace Kelley, Jackie O, and Twiggy with a little splash of psychedelic funk. Friends, family and co-workers were invited and had the opportunity to view our handiwork. Heavy hors d'oeuvres were served, including pigs-in-a-blanket, meatloaf, veggie sandwiches, shrimp cocktail, a relish tray, fruit skewers and deviled eggs. For sweets rum balls brought by a guest were a party favorite! Two punches helped wash it down. All in all a fantastic evening. Thanks to everyone!

Beach Bum!

Folly Beach, SC - July 2007. Note the appropriate quilting accessories - hat for the sun; beer for the heat. The most Xtreme thing about quilting on a beach is the sand. And the wind, when needing to thread the needle.

Ah, Brigadoon!

Taken August 21st on the Nelson Monument in Edinburgh:

The project I'm working on is a set of placemats made to fit my uniquely-shaped IKEA Fusion table. I finished the first one a couple of weeks ago, and it looks super sharp! Here's an IKEA photo of the table so you have an idea of the challenge facing anyone hoping to cover the darn thing:

You can't use a tablecloth because it would ruin the minimal lines and get tangled up in the intimately-proportioned leg space. I'm making four eye-shaped placemats that will fit the rounded corners.

The Official Ultimate Quilting League Mascot, Sweet Sparkle, was also there to enjoy the view from Calton Hill.
